About

The Fabric Merchant...

The Fabric Merchant, established by Maxine Knight, is born out of the

appreciation for beautiful textiles and the art of sewing.

The aim of The Fabric Merchant is to showcase culturally diverse fabrics,

as well as the different techniques that are devotedly used in their making,

some of which have been passed down from generation to generation

over hundreds of years.

It is important that the artisans themselves are showcased, as

The Fabric Merchant strives to support the communities, families

and small businesses in keeping interesting fabrics alive.

In doing this, it is fundamental that The Fabric Merchant gives a

face to the people behind the fabrics and presents textiles that visually

illustrate their cultural background.

Thank you for joining this exciting new journey.

My Story...

Who am I? A little lady from London now living in Bristol, with big dreams. I love fabrics! Although I'm not the best seamstress in the world, God loves a trier.

I have always dreamed of owning my own fabric shop and whilst being on maternity leave with my wonderful little boy, I thought this would be the perfect time to realise my dream. Obviously through the haze of sleep deprivation.

I have a great passion for travel and textiles and want to blend the two in order to display a unique selection of materials .

With a background in International Sales for both a fashion house and a publishing house, I want to achieve a very personal service for all my customers.

Thank you for supporting a little company of one who is supporting a big community of many.
